Referred to by many as one of Chicago's most
beloved treasures, the Lincoln Park Zoo is home to dozens of species
ranging from lions to cockroaches. Visitors are invited to view the
zoo's furry (or scaly) friends in their natural habitats: Check out the
gorillas in the sprawling Regenstein Center for African Apes, or head to
the Kovler Penguin and Seabird House to get up close and personal with
puffins and razorbills. If you're traveling with youngsters, head over
to the Farm-in-the-Zoo, where the little ones can meet some barnyard
favorites, or check out the Conservation Station, which features
hands-on demonstrations about the animals found in the zoo. Both experts
and recent visitors also agree that the Endangered Species Carousel is a
must.
If you're not already sold, bear in mind that the Lincoln Park Zoo is open every day of the year from about 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (hours may vary on national holidays and during winter) and that admission is free.
